Terms of Service

The service
ChatVault is a local-first Chrome extension that exports, backs up, and organizes conversations from ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini on your own device. The core local workflow, a complete manual backup in the current export formats, is free. These terms govern your use of the extension and this website.
Acceptable use
You may use ChatVault only to export and archive content that your own accounts are authorized to access. You must not use it to bypass authentication or access controls, to scrape platforms in violation of their terms, to export other people's data you cannot legitimately view, or to misrepresent exported content.
Your use of ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini remains governed by those platforms' own terms. ChatVault reads only what you can already see in your browser, at conservative speeds, and stops when a platform reports an access or authentication error.
Platform limitations
ChatVault depends on the structure of third-party websites. When a platform changes its pages, exports for that platform may fail or be flagged as unsupported until the corresponding adapter is updated. Completeness states in each archive's manifest record what could and could not be proven for every conversation.
The extension cannot recover conversations deleted before an export, cannot access chats your account cannot open, and does not guarantee that a platform will make any particular data available.
Your data and responsibilities
Exported archives and Vault contents live on your device and under your control. You are responsible for storing backups safely, for complying with the laws that apply to the content you archive, and for securing the device itself. Browser profile storage is not a substitute for keeping exported files in safe storage.
No warranty
ChatVault is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that exports will be error-free or that any platform will remain compatible.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ChatVault and its authors are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits, or business interruption arising from the use or inability to use the extension or this website. Keep your own redundant backups of anything that matters.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated as the product evolves. Material changes are posted on this page with a new revision date before they take effect. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
